Summer Project Ideas

It’s almost the end of my second year with Surface Pattern Design (where has the time gone!?) and I have yet to decide on ideas for an external project over summer! As you may have guessed it’s going to be plant based. However, I would like to go into more depth with the subject. In my latest project I have introduced Venus Flytraps within my designs, I have found these plants fascinating to draw and observe. So I’m thinking about delving deeper into the ‘dangerous’ side of plants whether that’s carnivorous, poisonous or even herbal plants, there is so much scope for ideas and inspiration and so much to research that it’ll make for a very interesting project.

Reflecting back on my work, I tend to stylize my drawings by creating patterns within the outlines of the plants, I love using this technique as it creates a more complex design, revealing new patterns after the first glance. I definitely would like to carry this technique into my summer project as I think it strengthens my designs.
